Peace and Intergroup Conflict Lab
Welcome to the Peace and Intergroup Conflict Lab (PICL) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Utah. Directed by Dr. Samantha Moore-Berg, PICL investigates what drives groups of people around the world to conflict and how to bring people back together. Our mission is to understand the psychology behind intergroup conflict and develop ways to intervene in order to fight inequality, promote peacebuilding, and foster social change.
Putting Science to Work for Peace
Our goal is to “put science to work for peace” by applying the tools and methods of
science to understand and ultimately transcend
the cognitive and psychological forces that drive humans into intergroup conflict.
We aim to put research into action to heal divisions and promote peace by partnering
with experts in academia, practitioners from non-profit organizations, artists, and
filmmakers.
Understanding Human Conflict
Our research seeks to understand how processes in the human brain drive people to
conflict -- and what we can do to bring people together
